About Broadsheet: The Business of News:
Broadsheet was created based on an industry need. There are two kinds of leaders in the newspaper industry. There are thought leaders whose job it is to think about the big picture of media, and then there are local media execs who are in the weeds and run the day-to-day operations of producing a newspaper.
Both positions are important for the success of the industry, but there is a disconnect between the two ways of thinking. The big picture thinkers have a hard time wrapping their heads around the everyday struggles of the modern newsroom. The local execs understand the challenges, but do not have the time or resources to tell what they know to the rest of the industry because they are too busy doing to stop and teach.
Broadsheet was created to combine those two ways of thinking and bridge the gap in conversation.
OwnLocal, the Digital Ad Agency for Local Media, saw the need and decided to sponsor the video series. OwnLocal works with 1,500+ publications around the world and saw the disconnect first hand. They saw the innovative things individual publishers were doing, but also saw that each one seemed to be on an island.
Broadsheet should connect these individuals and give them a platform to share ideas and start conversations. We welcome everyone in the industry to get involved to see if together we can improve the state of the industry.
